The UK Multidisciplinary Centre for Neuromorphic Computing, led by the Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies (AIPT), was officially launched at the House of Lords on 21 October 2025. The event brought together over 100 delegates from academia, industry, and policy, marking a major milestone in advancing the UK’s leadership in neuromorphic computing research.
Backed by £5.6 million funding from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the centre brings together a consortium of seven universities and 22 non-academic partners to pioneer energy-efficient, brain-inspired computing. In his address, Professor Sergei Turitsyn, Centre Director, emphasized his vision for long-term sustainability and the Centre’s potential to position the UK at the forefront of global neuromorphic innovation.
Guests also heard a message from the Minister for Science, Innovation, Research and Nuclear, Lord Patrick Vallance, who highlighted the importance of initiatives like this in tackling the growing energy demands of data centres and supporting the UK’s net zero ambitions.
