NeuroSYNC welcomes the announcement of a new strategic partnership between Aston University and the STFC Hartree Centre to accelerate the development, deployment and industrial adoption of neuromorphic computing across the UK.
The partnership establishes the Aston–Hartree Neuromorphic Centre of Competence, bringing together academia, industry and the public sector to strengthen collaboration, accelerate technology translation and support innovation in next-generation computing.
As the UK Multidisciplinary Centre for Neuromorphic Systems and Computing, NeuroSYNC will play a central role in the collaboration through its leadership at the Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies (AIPT). The partnership will support the development of NeuroSYNC's national neuromorphic computing roadmap, enabling the co-design of proof-of-concept applications, benchmarking capabilities, shared infrastructure and commercially relevant solutions aligned with industry needs.
The collaboration will initially focus on joint research and innovation projects, stakeholder engagement, funding initiatives and knowledge exchange across sectors including healthcare, energy, advanced manufacturing and defence. It will also explore hybrid computing approaches that combine neuromorphic technologies with high-performance computing to address complex real-world challenges.
In addition to advancing research, the partnership will help build UK capability through collaborative training, student placements, secondments and industry engagement, supporting the next generation of researchers and engineers in neuromorphic computing.
