UK Multidisciplinary Centre for Neuromorphic Computing Official Launch – A Recap

The UK Multidisciplinary Centre for Neuromorphic Computing was formally launched on 21 October 2025 at the House of Lords, bringing together more than 100 representatives from academia, industry and government. Led by the Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies (AIPT), the Centre marks a major national effort to accelerate research into next-generation, low-power computing inspired by the human brain. Supported by £5.6 million from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the consortium of seven universities and 22 non-academic partners aims to drive breakthroughs that span new materials, photonic hardware, human-neuron experiments and advanced computational models.

During the launch, Centre Director Professor Sergei Turitsyn outlined his ambition for the Centre to achieve long-term sustainability beyond its initial funding period and highlighted its potential to position the UK as a global leader in neuromorphic computing.
